FROM THE LEADERSHIP TEAM

From the Principal

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

We are now more than half way through a very busy term.

Conference

Last week, I had the privilege of attending a Conference on Wellbeing, where inspiring speakers highlighted the importance of a healthy diet and good sleep. At St Patrick’s School, all classes have a ‘Brain Food’ break around 10am, during which children are encouraged to bring a piece of fresh fruit or vegetables to eat. These short breaks are essential for improving student focus, attention, and overall learning, helping them reset and recharge for better cognitive function, reduced stress, and improved classroom behaviour. To support this, please ensure your child brings their brain food to school each day. Equally important is sleep, which plays a crucial role in children's health and development. Adequate rest strengthens their physical growth, brain function, learning abilities, and emotional well-being. It also enhances their immune system, helping them stay healthy and better equipped for learning.

Classroom Pulse

Each term, students participate in the Classroom Pulse Survey, which consists of eight key questions designed to gauge their school experience. These questions cover important aspects such as feeling cared for by their teacher, enjoying school, having friends, receiving support when facing challenges, learning effectively, having a say in their education, feeling safe, and experiencing a sense of belonging. Once the survey is completed, teachers analyze the results to identify students who may need extra support. If a student rates any of the questions very low, strategies are put in place to address their concerns and improve their experience. Additionally, teachers compare the results with previous terms to assess the success of these strategies and ensure ongoing improvements.

Reading

Reading plays a vital role in developing essential skills and knowledge, benefiting people of all ages and backgrounds. It strengthens cognitive abilities, expands vocabulary, and fosters both empathy and critical thinking. Beyond its educational value, reading provides access to information, broadens cultural understanding, and serves as an enjoyable and relaxing activity. At St Patrick’s School, emerging and developing readers take home decodable readers, which allow them to practice all the sounds in the English language. Once they have mastered these, they can explore other reading schemes, novels, or library books. To support literacy development, we encourage all students to read for at least 15 minutes each night to an adult.

Rock and Water

This term, we introduced the Rock & Water Program to a group of Year 3/4 students. This program is designed to help students develop self-awareness, recognize their personal strengths, and build confidence in navigating the world around them. It encourages them to learn how to play, work, and live harmoniously with others in an ever-changing and multicultural society. Through various exercises and activities, students are supported in discovering their own path, embracing their qualities, and managing the challenges and responsibilities they may face in life. By fostering resilience and self-belief, the program empowers students to approach their future with courage and confidence.

Pupil Free Day

This Friday, 6th June, is our Term 2 Pupil Free Day. While students have the day off, staff will participate in professional learning focused on Explicit Teaching and Positive Behaviour Intervention Support. For working parents, Camp Australia is offering care, but it’s essential to book your child in as soon as possible to secure a place. Please remember that Monday 9th June is a Public Holiday.

In all things love

From the APRIM

Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week May 27 to June 3

Last Wednesday Monsignor Minh Tam led us in a whole school Mass where we prayed for reconciliation and peace. We held Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in our hearts and prayed for the courage to work towards healing and ongoing reconciliation for the wrongdoings Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have experienced in the past and present. Jesus taught us to acknowledge our wrongdoings, forgive others and heal broken relationships with others and with God. We prayed for the Spirit of truth to guide us to work together to bring about peace and harmony between all of God’s people and God’s Earth.

Parish/School Sacramental Program

A reminder that our next meeting on the Eucharist is coming up in a few weeks on June 18th.  That would be a great time to return your Confirmation information forms if they’re complete. Otherwise, they’ll need to be returned, either to the school or the parish office by the 4th July.

At that meeting we’ll have the sign-up sheets for the First Eucharist Celebrations:

Saturday 30th August, 6pm at Mater Dei;

Sunday 31st August, 8:30am at St Patricks or 10:30am at St Margaret Marys;

Saturday 13th September, 6pm at Mater Dei;

Sunday 14th September, 10:30am at St Margret Marys or 5pm at Mater Dei (in Vietnamese)

Please remember the children and a parent are expected to attend each meeting to hear important information about the sacrament of First Communion and the follow up preparation at home. Please come to the meeting ready to record your child’s name on the list for one of the Masses.

Project Compassion

A big thankyou to our community members who donated money for the Project Compassion Appeal. Also thank you to Mr Proctor for organising the sausage sizzle where the money raised was donated to Project Compassion.

As a community donated $530 to Caritas for the appeal.  The money donated will make a big difference to the communities supported by Caritas.

Vinnies Winter Appeal

We are hosting a sausage sizzle fundraiser in Week 10, Tuesday 1st July. All profits raised will be given to St Vincent De Paul Society to support their annual Winter Appeal; supporting families in need.

1 sausage with bread - $3.00

2 sausages with bread - $5.00

Halal & Vegetarian sausages and gluten free bread will be available.

Student Presentations

Congratulations

Ramon Alejo and Anna Nguyen were two of the top ten entrants in the “Watching Glass Grow Challenge Course”, designed in collaboration between Makers Empire and Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium.

The challenge aimed to engage students in learning about how glass is made and how artists look to nature as an inspiration to create artwork, this experience was part of the Chihuly in the Botanic Garden exhibition at the Adelaide Botanic Garden from 27 September 2024 to 29 April 2025.

Their final design thinking challenge entry stood out amongst 4,000 entries! From the thousands of works submitted, ten final designs were chosen and are going to be displayed via Augmented Reality throughout Adelaide Botanic Gardens for Term 2, 2025.

As of the end of Term 1, 2025, there was 3842 school students and 158 independent users who had engaged with the Challenge Course across the life of the exhibition. These students came from 53 schools nationally and internationally.

Congratulations Ramon and Anna on your fantastic achievement. Our St Patrick’s Community are very proud of you.

School Assembly on Tuesday 2nd June was an exciting and a proud moment for several students including the year 6's who were presented with their SENIOR JACKETS which they designed with Teachers Sandra Hartley and Natalie Taylor.

The Truck Cat

On Wednesday the 21st of May, all classes participated in the National Simultaneous story time session that is hosted by the National Library each year. The story is read by millions of students across the nation and even in different countries!

The Truck Cat was the story chosen for 2025, and all the students were highly engaged in the reading of this story together. Literacy activities based on the story followed, with many of the students reflecting on the themes of friendship, companionship, and the journey our lives can take. You can look up the Truck Cat story using the link below:

Playgroup, family fun for families with children under 5 years

Playgroup SA has partnered with the Office for the Early Years (Department of Education) to provide free development checks for children aged 12 months to 4 years. The checks provide an opportunity to monitor your child’s development, identify any concerns and celebrate milestones. A development check helps to monitor whether a child is meeting the milestones for their age (such as dressing or talking). Please note this is not a health check.

Please contact Chau Tran 8303 4500 if you would like further information or would like to book in child development check.

VOLUNTEERING

As a Volunteer at St Patrick's, you can get involved in:

  • Parents & Friends Community
  • School Board
  • Fundraising Events
  • Excursions - Class support
  • Sports Day

An important role of Volunteer is to promote strong links between the parents and the school but also strong links between families, where members of families really feel that they belong to the school.

An active parent group also ensures the school is well resourced and the grounds are always well maintained.

We are welcoming new parents to come along and Volunteer at the School and join the Parents and Friends Group. Any amount of time is helpful.

FINANCE NEWS

School Fees 2025

A friendly reminder to those families, who do not have a direct debit set up, that Term 2 school fees are due by the last day of Term 2 the 04/07/25

We offer direct debit, BPAY, EFTPOS and also direct deductions from Centrelink payments to cater to the changing financial needs of our families at St Patrick’s School. When the direct debit payment option is selected your school fee payment is calculated over the full school year right up until the 31st of December 2025. This means smaller payments are required, making this method the most affordable way to budget for your commitment. Please come into the office or ring me on 83034500 if one of these options would better suit your financial requirements.

School Card 2025 must be applied for online each year and the instructions are in this newsletter. If you have any problems please come and see me if you are having any issues.

If at any time you are having trouble meeting your school fee commitment, or have any queries, please contact me on 8303 4500 to discuss this matter.
