FROM THE LEADERSHIP TEAM

From the Principal - Catherine O'Dea

Dear Parents, Caregivers and Community Members,

It is hard to believe that we are almost at the end of Term 1.

Last week, our teachers hosted Learner Conversations—an invaluable chance to share insights into each student’s progress and discuss their Personalised Learning Plans. As the document notes, these sessions were a fantastic opportunity for our teachers to share information about students’ learning and to present Personalised Learning Plans.

We sincerely thank all families who made the time to attend. Your involvement plays a vital role in supporting each child’s learning journey.

Our Annual General Meeting was held last Wednesday, and we are pleased to announce the newly appointed School Advisory Board members:

  • Chris Burford
  • Emina Cesko
  • Alarna Papa
  • Huyen kemp
  • Habte Weldemariam
  • Naresh Grover
  • Sandra Hartley - Staff Representative
  • Rachael DeTullio - Assistant Principal Religion and Identity Mission

We also took the opportunity to acknowledge two dedicated contributors to the Board. Katherine Zamora-Alejo was acknowledged for her contribution and leadership as Chairperson of the School Board over the past ten years, and Cynthia Smoljan was recognised for her five years of service as Staff Representative.

We look forward to collaborating with our new Board as we continue shaping the future direction of our school.

On Tuesday, our school proudly participated in the Port Region SAPSASA Track and Field Championships. Throughout the day, our students displayed exceptional determination, resilience, and sportsmanship—cheering each other on and giving their very best in every event.

We are delighted to congratulate the following students on their outstanding achievements:

  • Awollo - 1st in 100m, 1st in 200m, 1st in Relay
  • Atheing - 2nd in High Jump, 1st in Long Jump, 4th in 100m, 1st in Relay
  • Nyikok - 3rd in Long Jump, 1st in Relay
  • Alberta - 1st in Relay

Their efforts were a wonderful reflection of our school values and community spirit.

Several of these students have now qualified to represent the Port Region at the State Metro SAPSASA Track and Field Championships in Term 3, which is an incredible achievement. We look forward to cheering them on as they take this next exciting step.

Staffing News

As we prepare for the start of Term 2, we would like to share some important staffing news with our school community.

At the end of this term, we will be farewelling Mrs Anna Piantadosi, who is retiring once again. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Anna for her dedication and her willingness to step into the role of Italian Teacher in a part?time capacity over the past two years. Her contribution has been greatly appreciated by students and staff alike.

We are pleased to announce that Ms Rachael DeTullio will be joining our staff team as our new Italian Teacher from the beginning of Term 2. We are excited about the skills and knowledge of the Italian language that Rachael will bring to our students, as well as the rich cultural heritage she will share in this role.

Her passion for language learning and cultural understanding will be a wonderful addition to our specialist programs, and we look forward to the positive impact she will have across the school.

We would like to inform our community that Ms Karen Mesa, our teacher in the Judy Burley Learning Support Centre, will be taking leave during Term 2. We thank Karen for her ongoing commitment to our students and wish her all the very best during her time away.

We are currently in the process of appointing a teacher to replace Karen for the term, and we will share further details with families once the appointment is confirmed.

We would also like to share that Ms Natalie Taylor will be taking leave during Weeks 1 and 2 of Term 2. During her absence, classes will be taught by Mr Zac Taylor, an experienced and highly capable temporary relief teacher who is familiar with our school community.

We appreciate Natalie’s ongoing commitment to her students and thank Zac for stepping into the role to ensure continuity of learning.

We are delighted to share some joyful news from within our school community.

Warm congratulations to our Year 4/5 teacher, Ms Cynthia Smoljan, on her recent marriage to Grgo Saric. We wish them every happiness as they begin their married life together.

We also extend our congratulations to our ESO, Caitlin Heanes, on her recent marriage. We hope this new chapter is filled with joy and wonderful memories.

A very special birthday greeting goes to Mrs Carin Blackmore?Morris, who is celebrating one of life’s significant milestones. We hope her day is filled with love and celebration.

As we come to the end of Term 1, I wish you all a safe, happy and holy Easter spent with your families. May the forthcoming school holidays be a time of rest, renewal and togetherness.

Warm regards,

Catherine

Easter Blessings to Our School Community

As we prepare to celebrate Easter, we are reminded of the hope, love, and new life it brings.

Easter invites us to reflect on the resurrection of Jesus and to live with kindness, compassion, and forgiveness each day. At St Patrick’s School, we are proud to see these values lived out by our students through their care for others and positive contributions to our community.

A reminder that Good Friday and Easter Monday are public holidays, and there will be no school on these days.

We wish you and your families a happy and blessed Easter.

Celebrating First Reconciliation:

On Saturday, students from Year 3 and 3/4 celebrated the Sacrament of First Reconciliation. It was a special and meaningful occasion, where students took an important step in their faith journey, experiencing God’s forgiveness, love, and mercy.

We congratulate Keinrick, Elsa, Michaela, Alana and Dion who received this sacrament. We are so proud of the reverence, courage, and understanding they showed throughout their preparation and on the day itself.

Thank you to our families for supporting their children in this important milestone, and to the staff and parish community who helped guide and prepare the students.

May these students continue to grow in faith, showing kindness, forgiveness, and love in their everyday lives.

Holy Week at St Patrick's:

This week at St Patrick’s, our school community has been journeying through Holy Week in a special and meaningful way through our Holy Week tableaux.

Our Reception and Reception/Year 1 students beautifully presented the story of Palm Sunday, reminding us of Jesus’ joyful entry into Jerusalem and the call to welcome Him into our hearts with love and joy. Our Year 2 students also reverently shared the story of the Last Supper, helping us to reflect on the importance of love, sharing, and remembering Jesus.

These experiences provide a wonderful opportunity for our students to reflect, pray, and grow in their faith as we prepare for Easter.

Warmly,

Rachael De Tullio

3SM Update from Ms Mylidonis

There’s been lots of exciting learning happening in Ms Mylidonis’ Year 3 class this term. Take a look at some of the fantastic Science and Religion work completed by our students!

Science in 3SM

In 3SM, students have been exploring different materials and their properties as part of our science learning. They designed and constructed their own tents using a variety of materials, with the aim of testing which ones were more waterproof than others.

Students thoroughly enjoyed the hands-on experience of building their tents and then putting them to the test. It was fantastic to see their creativity, problem-solving skills, and teamwork in action throughout the process.

We really value engaging, hands-on learning experiences, as they allow students to actively explore concepts and develop a deeper understanding in a fun and meaningful way.

Religion in 3SM

In Religion, students have been exploring how God is revealed in their lives. They created beautiful paintings that express their own experiences and reflections.

We read the book What is God Like? by Rachael Held Evans and Matthew Paul Turner, a wonderful story that invites students to think about the many ways God is present in our everyday lives. Inspired by this, students worked independently to express, in their own way, where and how they see God revealed in their lives.

It was wonderful to see their creativity and thoughtfulness shine through their artwork as they reflected on something personal and meaningful.

Woodville Hockey Club Visit

We were thrilled to welcome coaches Andy, Krish and Noona from the Woodville Hockey Club to our school to run exciting hockey clinics with our Year 2-6 students. Across the sessions, students learnt and practised key skills including dribbling, passing, juggling and tackling, and absolutely loved the experience. With the club located less than five minutes from our school, it’s a fantastic local opportunity for families interested in getting involved in sport. The 2026 hockey season is fast approaching and spots are still available. The club provides a uniform for all junior players, and families are encouraged to contact the club to learn more about their free Come and Try clinics and how to get started. Don't forget families can use their $200 free sports voucher to go towards club fees. #WoodvilleHockeyClub
