Resource Centre / Library

The Resource Centre offers a wide range of services and learning programs to support teachers and students at St. Patrick's School. The ability to retrieve, evaluate and use information effectively, empowers students for lifelong learning, and is described by the term 'information literacy'.

The Resource Centre assists in the promotion of research and digital literacies by:

  • Class teachers, the teacher librarian and computer teacher working together to develop, plan and teach units of work incorporating the skills based on the information process through an 'Inquiry Learning' approach, curriculum areas such as Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) subjects, Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) and Health
  • providing teachers with the support (i.e. resources and skills) they need to develop information-literate students
  • providing service and technologies needed to gain maximum access to information

Promotion of literature is also a priority, so that students will be encouraged to make satisfying choices both in their required reading, and for their own leisure and pleasure.

The aim of the Resource Centre is to provide students with a welcoming environment and comfortable and rewarding experiences that will contribute to their understanding of, and respect for, the role of libraries in their lifelong learning and reading.

The Resource Centre is open most mornings from 8.30am. It is also open each lunchtime to enable children to spend time in the library reading and playing together.
